Alicante, 10 December 2025. Impulsalicante, Alicante City Council’s Local Development Agency, and the Management and Modernisation Entity “Las Atalayas, ciudad empresarial” presented the ReDiseña Awards on Wednesday, aimed at promoting the recycling of workwear in industrial environments, with prizes of €2,500 and €500, respectively. The jury awarded the “Turno Libre” project, which proposes using recycled material to create a prototype seat for sports stadiums. It also granted a special mention to “Circuitos Circulares”, a cooperative game about the industrial waste cycle in business areas designed to promote the circular economy.
The Councillor for Employment and Development, Mari Carmen de España, who is responsible for Impulsalicante, explained that “this competition was created to address the environmental challenge prioritised by citizens within the framework of CILAB Alicante, where the need to make progress in reducing and recovering industrial waste while promoting the circular economy in the city was identified”. “The initiative highlights that industrial areas are also part of the city and that their involvement is essential in ecological transition processes,” the councillor added.
“This demonstrates that creativity and innovation can turn environmental challenges into real opportunities for our region. This competition consolidates Atalayas Ciudad Empresarial’s commitment to the circular economy, local talent and purpose-driven design,” said Francisco Samper, president of the Atalayas Ciudad Empresarial EGM.
Vicente Seguí, Director-General for Employment, Business Development and the New Economy at Alicante City Council, also took part in the award ceremony, held in the assembly hall of the Management and Modernisation Entity “Las Atalayas, ciudad empresarial”. He stressed that “collaboration between industrial areas and citizens is essential to move towards more sustainable economic models, and Las Atalayas is demonstrating that innovation is not only technological, but also social and environmental”.
The winning proposals will form part of the dissemination and learning programme of the CILAB Alicante 2025 project. During the CILAB Alicante participatory sessions, citizens identified the need to reduce, transform and recover waste generated in the city as a priority, particularly waste associated with industrial environments.
Winning projects
“Turno Libre”, the winning project in the ReDiseña Awards, proposes a fixed and durable seat for stadiums, sports venues and public spaces, designed for use in high-occupancy environments such as stadium stands, sports facilities and outdoor public areas. The design consists of a fixed seat with a backrest, intended for intensive use and outdoor conditions. It features a curved shape for comfort, a drainage channel, two staggered anchoring points and covers that conceal the screws. An optional in-mould coating can also be added to improve the finish, durability and resistance to water, ultraviolet radiation and fire.
As for the special mention, “Circuitos Circulares” is a cooperative board game designed as an educational tool whose main objective is to promote the principles of the circular economy. The game simulates the life cycle of workwear. Players represent a management team whose mission is to transform a traditional linear system—Design → Production → Use → Landfill—into a more sustainable and viable circular system. The group must work together to gradually introduce circular stages into the system, such as Collection, Sorting, Repair, Reuse and Recycling. The team wins if it succeeds in significantly reducing environmental impact and waste by the end of the scenario while maintaining an acceptable profit and creating circular routes that prevent materials from being sent to landfill. The team loses if the waste level reaches 10 at any point or if profits fall below the minimum threshold. De España concluded by explaining that “in response to this social demand identified through CILAB, the new competition promotes the design of innovative solutions that make it possible to turn waste into resources, increase the sustainability of production processes and create new green employment opportunities, based on the laboratory’s fundamental principle that industrial areas are also part of the city and that their challenges must be addressed from an urban, community-based and sustainable perspective”.
